There were rumors surfacing that the Marvel Studios was developing a film based on their character Shang-Chi. What we didn't suspect was that it would feature the Mandarian (the "real' one) and the "Ten Rings of Power"; which were hinted at back in Iron Man (2008). Marvel's Kevin Feige announced the cast and the director at Comic-Con 2019 for the 2021 film. the film's director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is best known for the film Short Term 12 (2013) and has no previous Superhero genre credit to his name. This isn't a bad thing, just something we took note of. We did have a suspicion that we were going to get this film announced when Hasbro dropped that new Marvel Legends action figure of Shang-Chi on us Friday!

Press Release: Feige spoke about the feature film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and detailed how the legend has been hinted at in the MCU films since the first “Iron Man.”
In an unanticipated surprise for all, Kevin Feige then announced the confirmed casting of Simu Liu in the title role of Shang-Chi and both the actor and the director, Destin Daniel Cretton, came on stage to greet the audience. Kevin also shared with the audience the casting of Awkwafina in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. Then, Kevin revealed to the Hall H audience that the real Mandarin will be played by celebrated Chinese actor Tony Leung.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will be in theaters on February 12, 2021.
