AFJ’S TOP 10 STAR WARS THE BLACK SERIES FIGURES OF 2017

The hardest part of coming with a precise 2017 list, for action figures, is nailing down a release date. Certainly, we got notification of some of these figures back in 2016 at Toy Fair, but when they actually surfaced online and at brick and mortar stores is another story. AFJ’s list of Top 10 Star Wars The Black Series figures for 2017 comes from exactly that, when you could actually buy them. We want your favorites and picks at the bottom junkies! #AFJ4LIFE

10. BATTLEFRONT II - INFERNO SQUAD AGENT - GAMESTOP EXCLUSIVE

The great thing about this GameStop exclusive was that they actually offered you a chance to pre-order it and then had it on hand for you. Imagine that?! It is a re-painted Tie Fighter pilot, but it is still a sweet figure and a great tie-in with the game.

9. FORCE GHOST OBI-WAN KENOBI - WALGREENS EXCLUSIVE

We’ve seen this done many times in the past with a variety of figures, however here it really rings true. Kudos to Hasbro for supplying not only a proper Black Series Obi-Wan (40th Anniversary Edition) this year, but for also giving junkies the character in the form that we have all grown accustomed to. Check out The Noob’s piece on this figure HERE.

8. BAZE

Released in the second wave of Rogue One Black Series figures, Baze came and went with barely a notice. That alone places him on our top 10 list because he became an instant collectible. Why does Hasbro do this? I can still buy Constable Zuvio anywhere and everywhere but did not see Baze once in all of 2017.

7. CHIRRUT

Number 8 on our list brings us to number 7 of course as they were the salt and pepper of Rogue One. Chirrut also came and went and was fetching nearly over $40 dollars on eBay and Amazon back in April. Now he is one of the most sought-after Black Series figures in the whole line. Again, I can buy Zuvio and even Captain Cassian Andor anywhere, however, the Force was not with the fans who really wanted Chirrut.

6. CAPTAIN REX - HASCON 2017 EXCLUSIVE

No, I did not go to HasCon 2017, however, if I did Captain Rex is the one figure I would have bought. The packaging here is fantastic and to finally have a Rex in the Black Series line is long overdue. Thankfully, since I didn’t go to HasCon I can just pick him up in regular release. That is if he doesn’t go the way of Chirrut and Baze.

5. GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN - CELEBRATION ORLANDO EXCLUSIVE

Hands down one of the best Black Series exclusives in terms of packaging and accessories. It surfaced at both SWCO and Comic-Con this year. The scalpers and retailers seem to have plenty in stock so the price is not too outrageous. This is clearly one for the Expanded Universe and Star Wars Rebels fans.

4. FIRST ORDER STORMTROOPER WITH GEAR - AMAZON EXCLUSIVE

Amazon really had the best First Order trooper to date as their exclusive is complete with all those fantastic accessories. My only gripe is that you only get one figure in the box and there are so many fantastic combinations to make. Act fast junkies, this one is now on sale (HERE).

3. X-34 LANDSPEEDER & 6-INCH LUKE SKYWALKER

Yes, we need more vehicles in the Black Series line.Why this one over Rey’s Speeder? This one can actually seat two figures! Again, there is an exclusive version out there, but right now this set is easily on sale at retailers like Barnes & Noble and Wal-Mart. Go, junkies, you know when this one is gone, you’ll regret it.

2. LUKE SKYWALKER X-WING PILOT - 40TH ANNIVERSARY STAR WARS CELEBRATION 2017

This Luke had all the junkies going crazy during Star Wars Celebration Orlando. I think for some, it was the packing and for others, it was finally the chance to get the Luke as the X-Wing Pilot because they missed him the first time around. 1. JAINA SOLO - FAN CHOICE

Funny how the last horse out of the gate takes the number one spot. Fan choice figures are usually very hard to come by so Jaina Solo (Han and Leia’s daughter from Star Wars Legends) is the figure to have. Thankfully, many regular people won’t know who she is and she’ll survive on the peg a little while longer. For the junkies out there, she’ll be the only choice next to anyone else in this wave.
