The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that James Mangold, the director of the final Wolverine film, LOGAN, will direct a stand-alone Star Wars film featuring the bounty hunter Boba Fett. They also broke the news that Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class franchise) will co-write the film.
"James Mangold is writing and will direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centered on Boba Fett, the feared bounty hunter and fan-favorite character, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned".
The Hollywood Reporter also stated that "Lucasfilm is developing movies on a slew of characters including Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct, although no writers are working on a script" (Read the full story HERE).
AFJ'S TAKE: We are a little surprised that the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie hasn't been officially announced yet or has a director. It is the film that fans (we included) have been asking for. However, Boba Fett is a close second. The question then becomes, who will play Boba Fett? Temuera Morrison played Jango Fett and Daniel Logan played Boba Fett (Jango's clone) in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Logan, now 31 years old, is the right age, depending on when the story takes place. Yet will Lucasfilm gamble on a relatively unknown actor in the title role? They are doing that with Solo: A Star Wars Story, so perhaps this weekend is a litmus test?
Details are scarce, but we have a feeling a little of speculation will occur until Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April of 2019.
