Over the weekend, the NY POST had a story of one Ricardo Jove Sanchez who was found guilty of copyright infringement for reproducing action figures of Conan the Barbarian, Kull and El Borak action figures. Sanchez was selling the figures over the internet.
The NY POST: "Brooklyn federal Judge Frederic Block found Ricardo Jove Sanchez liable under trademark infringement laws, saying he sold the collectibles despite knowing their likenesses were owned by Conan Properties International LLC, and Robert E. Howard Properties Inc.
Sanchez peddled the figures of Conan, Kull, El Borak, Soloman Kane, Ironhand, Bran Mak Morn, and Dark Agnes over Facebook and Kickstarter for a three-year period, the companies alleged". Read the full story HERE.
AFJ's Take: We are all for making custom figures here AFJ, however, when you start to mass produce them, someone is going to notice. Be smart, Junkies. Not only did Sanchez cross the lines of copyright infringement but he was fined a hefty amount for each character he did not have the rights to.
